Airport Day and Open House |
Come Discover Your Community Airport for Free Calling all kids, kids at heart, and aviation buffs! Fly-in or drive to Mansfield Lahm Airport for a day of airplanes, show cars, food, history, and fun. On Saturday July 3, 2010, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport will be having The First Annual Airport Day and Open House hosted by the City of Mansfield, the Ohio National Guard, the Mansfield Aviation Club, and EAA chapter 148. The public is invited to attend all activities and tour the airport facilities. This is an opportunity to understand everything the airport offers the Mansfield-Richland County community. There will be children's activities and aircraft displays from many eras of aviation. Expect to see vintage and modern aircraft – military and civilian. The Ohio National Guard has promised some big aircraft and there will be plenty of smaller ones as well. Airplanes based at Mansfield will be showcased from a classic Stagger Wing and Stearman to an L-39 Jet and advanced Mooney. Come talk with pilots and learn about aviation. For this inaugural event, we are proud to feature the dedication and groundbreaking ceremony of the Garden of Heroes Family Aviation Park. The Family Aviation Park will be a new amenity at the airport and will include replicas of the runways, a children’s control tower, radio communications from the tower, and picnic tables in a pavilion fashioned in the shape of an early aircraft hangar. It will be a great place to bring the kids and watch airplanes. The Garden of Heroes will remember our aviation heroes involved in the creation of Mansfield Lahm Airport. The Car Show is also back at the airport. We are expecting over 100 show cars, trucks, and cycles. The Car Show is sponsored by Milliron Auto Parts and is free to spectators. Show Cars register for $5 with dash plaques to the first 100 entries. Door prizes, top 20 Trophies, Oldies Music, and games! There will be a variety of other exhibits and activities. Some of the exhibitors will include the Mansfield Fire Department, the Mansfield Memorial Museum, the Civil Air Patrol, the FAA, the Experimental Aircraft Association, and the Mansfield based U-Vary Aire flight training school. Admission and parking are free. Food and refreshments will be available for purchase including a pancake breakfast ($5 adults, $2 children) and lunch (hot dogs and hamburgers). Discounted airplane rides will be available on-site. Kick-off your 4th of July holiday at Mansfield Lahm Airport! Mansfield Lahm Regional Airport |
